Learning the laws regulating the use of firearms is a must for responsible ownership. Local regulations differ and laws vary from state to state. Citizens must check with the jurisdiction where the gun is to be used.

Alabama State Code provides that the Sheriff of a county shall issue a qualified or unlimited license to a person residing in the county, and is a suitable person to be licensed.

Pistol Permits must be obtained from the county sheriff of your county of residence.

Pricing:

  • The cost of a pistol permit is $20.00 for anyone age 18 to 59. The cost for persons age 60 or over is $15.00.
  • Permits can be issued up to five years at a time.

  • All communication regarding the status of your application, including the approval of your application, will be sent via the email address provided on the application.
  • The Sheriff’s Office will issue or deny a Pistol License Application within 30 days of receipt of a completed application.
  • The Lee County Sheriff's Office is located 1900 Frederick Road, Opelika, AL 36803-0688. Office hours are Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM.
  • Permits may be picked up Monday thru Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm CST.
  • Effective Oct.1, 2022, ACT 2021-246 states Sheriff shall require an applicant to possess a valid carry concealed permit for 5 years prior to approval of issuance of lifetime non-expiring permit
